SLAYER（スレイヤー）

BIG4（スラッシュ四天王）のなかで最も安定してスラッシュメタルを提供し続けてきたバンド。
音楽・歌詞もろとも過激なことからレコード会社から敬遠され、CDの配給元が変わったことも。
90年代、グランジ／オルタナ旋風が吹き荒れヘヴィメタル全体が変革を迫られるなか、過激でアンチコマーシャルな不変のアティテュードを守り続け、後続のデスメタル／ブラックメタルの誕生・発展にも大きな影響を与えた。（その自負心から音楽スタイルを変えた他のバンドに苦言を呈することも。）
この安定した苛烈さこそ、四天王のなかでも敬意をこめて「帝王」と呼ばれるゆえんであろう。
